projekt202 Home Office
At projekt202 Dallas, in addition to being the UX practice director, I was the unofficial office space planner. Interior design is a side hobby of mine, usually something I do for friends and family, but when p202 began planning its new Dallas headquarters in 2012—without a planner—it was one of those times at a startup when the need for someone to wear a new hat had just the right side head, I guess.
The office was to be new construction on a tight turn following a complete tear-down of the existing space, so we needed everything, down to new walls, asap. With the staff running lean, I operated on an "apologize later" premise, which paid off pretty nicely.
In all, contributions included:
- Drawing up a new floorplan to accommodate the growing staff and consultants with varying work styles
- Coordinating electricity and plumbing considerations with the building planner
- Selecting materials and finishes on an extremely tight budget
- Shopping for, selecting and purchasing desks, office and lobby furnishings and decor
- Devising construction of a massive breakfast bar with one of the design consultants who did carpentry
- Likewise with said consultant, devising inexpensive but stylish dividers for semi-open workspaces
- Mural painting for breakroom/entry
